RAGBRAI (400 Mile Bike Ride)

What it takes
RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) is the largest and longest bike-touring event in the world — and the best rolling party you'll ever attend. 10,000+ riders pedal 400-500 miles across Iowa over 7 days, west to east, with the route changing every year. It's not a race. People ride unicycles, tandem bikes, and recumbents. The real draw is the legendary overnight town parties, pie stops, Porky's rib stands, and beer gardens along the way. Support vehicles carry your gear so you just ride. You do need to be in shape — 50-70 miles a day for a week is real — but most riders train by logging miles, not following a structured plan. The community and camaraderie are what keep people coming back year after year.
Injury Prevention for This Adventure
These are the most common injuries for cycle athletes over 50. A few minutes of targeted prehab each week can keep you on track.
