Catalina Channel Swim (California)
20.2 miles (32.5 km) from Santa Catalina Island to the mainland California coast. Part of the Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming alongside the English Channel and Manhattan Island. Cold water (15-20°C / 59-68°F), strong currents, kelp forests, and marine life encounters define the crossing. Most swims take 10-15 hours. No wetsuit for an official crossing. The Catalina Channel Swimming Federation has sanctioned crossings since 1927.
