What it takes
Freediving is the art of breath-hold diving — descending to depth on a single breath using relaxation, technique, and equalization skills rather than tanks and regulators. A PADI or AIDA Level 1 course teaches breath-hold fundamentals, safety protocols, and gets you to 10-20 meters in open water. The sport is profoundly meditative: your heart rate drops, the world goes quiet, and the only thing that matters is staying calm. Dahab (Egypt), Koh Tao (Thailand), and Hawaii are top learning destinations.
Injury Prevention for This Adventure
These are the most common injuries for water athletes over 50. A few minutes of targeted prehab each week can keep you on track.
