Overland Expedition

What it takes
Self-supported overland vehicle expeditions through challenging terrain — Rubicon Trail (California), Iceland F-Roads, and remote desert crossings — demand vehicle preparation, recovery skills, and navigation in areas with no cell service or support. The physical demands are real but specific: you need functional strength to shovel out a stuck truck, deploy a hi-lift jack, carry MaxTrax recovery boards, and push a vehicle that won't budge. A little hiking fitness helps when you scout a line on foot before you drive it. Overlanding is growing at 20% annually, with 45% of participants over 50.
